Spread across more than 600,000 hectares, Everglades National Park is one of America's most unique wilderness areas. Thrilling airboat rides offer a unique chance to spot rare and endangered animal species, such as the American crocodile, West Indian manatee and Florida panther.
Rent a kayak for a scenic paddle across the glassy lakes and through lush mangrove forests or join a ranger-led “slough slog” hike to get knee-deep in murky waters. The park is also laced with self-guided routes, such as the Anhinga Trail, where you can spot alligators basking in the sunshine.
History buffs shouldn't miss the Museum of the Everglades, a popular local attraction offering a glimpse of the park's rich history. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Seminole Indian Museum is another cultural highlight, featuring exhibits on Florida’s Native American tribes.
