About Bridlington

Things to do in Bridlington

The most prominent landmark in Bridlington is the Priory Church of St Mary, which was originally founded as an Augustinian monastery in 1113. Soaring columns and magnificent stained-glass windows adorn the interior, with the history of the Priory illustrated through a series of appliqué pictures.

If you’re interested in the local history, visit the grand Georgian country house of Sewerby Hall, which houses the Museum of East Yorkshire and the Coastguard Museum. Wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens, enjoy a game of golf on the putting green and explore the small zoo where lemurs, alpacas and penguins reside.

Just to the north of Bridlington are the soaring chalk cliffs of Bempton and a nature reserve run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Walking trails along the top of the cliffs lead to observation points where Atlantic puffins can be seen nesting in the rocky crevices, together with northern gannets and black-legged kittiwakes.

A short drive inland takes you to the Elizabethan manor house of Burton Agnes Hall, considered one of the finest houses in England. It’s renowned for its fine art collection, as well as an extensive walled garden that features stunning floral displays, giant board games and a maze.
