Frankenberg’s half-timbered town hall, known as Historisches Rathaus, is one of the most beautiful in Germany. It dates back to the 16th century and features a handsome Gothic facade and 10 spire-topped towers. Guided tours take you into the magnificent upper-floor function room decorated with gleaming antiques and a centuries-old deer antler chandelier.
From bentwood bistro chairs to Bauhaus-inspired steel stools, the Thonet Museum walks you through more than 200 years of furniture design. The company was founded in Frankenberg in the late 1880s and went on to become one of the most famous furniture designers in Europe. The collection charts the evolution of Thonet designs over the centuries and includes many examples of the iconic No. 14 Chair owned by the likes of Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein.
Meet mountain goats, red deer and other animals at Wildpark Frankenberg. The urban wildlife park is a short stroll from the Old Town and home to hundreds of free-roaming animals. Visit in spring or summer to see adorable lambs and hand-feed baby deer.
