Embark on a journey through the remarkable Forts Walk, offering some of the best vistas in the area for viewing animals next to the rocky outcroppings and historic forts. The four-kilometre-long expedition rewards you with an album of fantastic photographs, memorable encounters with koalas and a deeper sense of the area’s military history.

If you’re looking to get out on the water, Magnetic Island offers numerous activities, such as snorkelling, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing and boat charters. Rent a jet ski for some adrenaline-pumping fun, hire a fishing boat for fantastic angling opportunities provided by plentiful marlin, mackerel and sea perch or hop aboard a kayak for a laid-back exploration of the waterways.

Getting around Magnetic Island

Townsville serves as the gateway to Magnetic Island, offering regular ferry services. Townsville Airport is a 10-kilometre drive to the Breakwater Ferry Terminal. In addition, Queensland’s Rail, the Sunlander and the Tilt Train offer regular services to Townsville from Brisbane and Cairns. The easiest way to get around is to rent a mini moke or car, although parts of the island can be explored on foot.
