Things to do in Słubice

Cheer on local Polish football teams at OSiR Stadium. The stadium seats almost 17,000 people and has an electric atmosphere on game days. Grab a “kielbasa” Polish sausage topped with mustard and sauerkraut and a can of Żubr lager before heading to your seat.

Shop for souvenirs and everyday essentials at the Slubice Bazaar. The colourful flea market sells everything from clothes, fashion accessories, electronics and homewares to flowers and fresh produce. Local from Frankfurt and Berlin flock to the market to take advantage of the discounted prices.

Pay your respects to the world’s favourite free online encyclopedia at the Wikipedia Monument. Armenian sculptor Mihran Hakobyan designed the eclectic monument, which features four figures holding up a globe.

Cross the Stadtbrucke bridge and spend the day sightseeing in Frankfurt an der Oder. The Old Town boasts an idyllic setting on the river and features handsome red-brick Gothic buildings. Enjoy a coffee in a sunny square and admire the 13th-century Town Hall. The Kleist Museum occupies a former garrison and celebrates the life and legacy of famous German poet, Heinrich von Kleist.

Sit down for a traditional Polish meal of “schab” smoked pork loin and “pierogi” dumplings stuffed with cheese, onion and potato. Warm up with a bowl of “rosol” chicken noodle soup or “barszcz” beetroot broth. For breakfast, order sugar-dusted “nalesniki” crepes filled with sweet cottage cheese.
