About Moline

Forming part of the Quad Cities region, Moline lies along the Mississippi River as it marks the border between Illinois and Iowa. In 1848, John Deere relocated his steel plow company here and when the railroad arrived six years later, it became affectionately known by passengers as “John Deere Town”.

Things to do in Moline

Moline’s legacy as a manufacturing hub for agricultural machinery is showcased at the John Deere Pavilion, which was purpose-built and opened to the public in 1997. In addition to showcasing both historical and cutting-edge equipment (many of which you can climb atop), the centre features interactive exhibits and a merchandise store. Across the street is the Vibrant Arena at The MARK where the Quad City Steamwheelers compete.

You can take a step back in time at the Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House, which comprises two mansions that were built in the late 19th century by the son of John Deere, Charles. Join a guided tour to explore the period-furnished rooms, with a highlight being the Venetian ceiling painting by Gaspar Diziani in the Butterworth Center. After your visit, stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Hugging the south bank of the Mississippi River is the Ben Butterworth Parkway, which is home to a waterfront walking trail, a fishing pier and a boat launch. Kids can let loose in the children’s playground before relaxing in one of the picnic shelters. Paddleboat cruises depart from the park, allowing you to enjoy the sights of Moline from the water.
