Initially, a fort town built in the early-17th century, Tambov has changed its face many times over the last 400 years. Wander through the Tambov Regional Local Lore Museum, home to native flora and fauna of Tambov and exhibits on the everyday life of local people. See carved wooden tools, beautiful pottery and richly embroidered clothing.

Take a guided tour of the House of Merchant Aseyev, a 20th-century Russia manor. Admire its eclectic exterior, which harmoniously combines Baroque, classicism and modernism styles, before exploring the elaborately decorated rooms and stunning White Hall.

Getting around

Tambov Donskoye Airport is 10 kilometers from the center of Tambov, with taxis available to take you into town. Direct trains also arrive from Saint Petersburg, Novorossiysk and Volgograd. Tambov is walkable, although buses and taxis are available.
