Justin’s four day Itinerary in South Australia

South Australia is a one-stop destination for world-class wine and drink, unbeatable gourmet food and produce, spectacular natural scenery and unique wildlife. The State’s varied and diverse regions offer visitors a broad range of experiences. Start your visit in Adelaide, the coolest boutique capital city and easily explore small bars, award-winning restaurants and cultural precincts. Only twenty minutes from the Adelaide CBD, the Adelaide Hills are a world away.  Wind your way through charming towns, past produce stalls and lush vineyards. The Barossa is home to some of the oldest shiraz vines in the world and steeped in German heritage. No matter what kind of traveller you are, South Australia is sure to get experience seekers closer to their passions.

Day 1

Morning

Adelaide is bursting with culture, flavours, events, and entertainment. Taste your way through world-famous wine regions only minutes away from the city, soak up the sun at one of our picture-perfect metropolitan beaches, join the party at our immersive festivals and events or spend the night exploring Adelaide attractions and a thriving restaurant and bar scene. Adelaide is a gateway to some of Australia’s best wine country as well as historic buildings, lush parklands, and some of the country’s best beaches.

On arrival at Adelaide Airport, meet with a representative of Door to Door Chauffeurs to transfer you to your accommodation.

Arrive and check in at the Crowne Plaza Adelaide.

Afternoon

Arrive at Si Sea Restaurant, Stall 76 in the Adelaide Central Market and meet with a representative of Food Tours Australia for the Delicious Lunch Tour.

Wander the cultural precinct of North Terrace and visit an exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Aboriginal cultures gallery at the South Australian Museum or commence your wine journey at the National Wine Centre.

Arrive at the Adelaide Oval and make way to the RoofClimb experience located in the South gate. Take on the icon. An exhilarating adventure across Adelaide Oval’s unique roofline with a wide range of climb possibilities.   The guided tour runs for about 2 hours and covers a distance of 1.2 kilometres in total, climbing up and down ladders and multiple flights of stairs, walking on open metal grate walkways and a stepped bridge. Climbers are harnessed and attached to the railing at all times, but you’ll still need to overcome a fear of heights, especially at the peak of the climb on the Riverbank stand.

Evening

Dine this evening at Shobosho where you can enjoy the ancient traditions of Japanese yakitori, with the finesse, skill & texture of all that is raw, cured, pickled and fermented.  The menu takes a journey through raw to cooked, with yakitori, noodles, dumplings, bao, robata grilled and spit roasted meats.

Morning

Meet the winemaker at Deviation Road Wines, famous sparkling winemaker from the Adelaide Hills. Start with a tour of the winery where you will hand disgorge and bottle a souvenir custom cuvee, then savour their range of premium handcrafted sparkling wines with a Noble Cuvee wine flight. The disgorging experience is a rare opportunity to see how Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling is made and participate in the process, taking home your own bottle with the dosage you have selected.

Ambleside Distillers

The family behind Ambleside has created a beautiful distillery from the garden up. Passionate about sourcing local since day one, they have grown their own botanicals in their distillery garden and they are recognised as one of the best craft gin producers in the region. Enjoy a tasting flight of their 3 signature gins plus a look at the distillery.

Crafers Hotel

Enjoy a 2-course lunch at the Crafers Hotel and Bistro + 2 glasses of wine. Home of Adelaide Hills gastronomy, this restaurant offers exceptional bistro dining, heavily influenced by the Alsace region of France.

 

 

Afternoon

Visit the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, and enjoy Aboriginal Native Plant & Social History Tour with Bookabee AustraliaWhere you can take a leisurely walk around the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to learn about Aboriginal traditional plant uses. After your tour concludes, continue to explore the 50 hectares of the Botanic Gardens including the magnificently restored 1877-built Palm House and the Bicentennial Conservatory with its unique rainforest environment.

 

 

Evening

Enjoy dinner at Africola – a vibrant restaurant with a western soundtrack, for African-inspired vegetables, grilled and smoked meats, flatbreads, pickles and natural wine. Take a seat at the bar to watch the kitchen in action and hope to catch head-chef Duncan Welgemoed at the helm. The menu changes regularly to reflect seasonality.

Day 3

Morning

Check out of accommodation and rent a car to visit Barossa. Just a 50-minute drive north east of Adelaide, the Barossa is an internationally-acclaimed wine region encompassing the towns of Tanunda, Angaston and Nuriootpa. Wander into over 80 cellar doors, tasting some of the most awarded wines in the world and digging into sumptuous local produce. Meet winemakers, chat with passionate staff and mingle with proud locals. It’s a region founded on passion, pride and South Australian spirit.

Afternoon

Arrive at Lou Miranda Estate and enjoy lunch at Lou’s Place. Lou’s Place offers seasonal, local produce with a relaxed, fun dining experience. It is a modern interpretation of classic Italian cuisine in the beautiful family-owned Lou Miranda Estate winery. Bring your friends and family because everyone is welcome at Lou’s Place!

Enjoy a wine experience at Yalumba, founded by Samuel Smith in 1849, after purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land rich earth. Six generations and more than 150 years later Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family-owned winery remains one of the most popular wineries with tourists because of its beautiful landscaped gardens and the winery’s Clock Tower (circa 1906).

Day 4

Morning

Arrive at Seppeltsfield Winery to visit Vasse Virgin located within the Seppeltsfield Winery complex for the Lip Balm Workshop experience. Vasse Virgin Barossa is a business with a unique vision, producing all-natural handmade skin and body care developed to suit all skin types.

Lip Balm Workshop – Learn how to create your very own natural lip balm using luxurious honey, shea butter, creamy beeswax and organic ingredients.  In this quick and easy 45-minute class you’ll discover how to craft two beautiful lip balms in 15gm pots and get to take home any extras!  Choose to keep it simple or include a scrumptious flavour such as aniseed, lavender or orange.

 

Afternoon

Enjoy lunch at Fino Seppeltsfield. It is located in the original bottling hall. The most importance is placed on produce and its provenance, a deep commitment to every customer’s enjoyment and a connection to the region; its culture and its people.

After lunch, visit Seppeltsfield Wines for the Taste your Birth Year experience. To enjoy the immersive experience of the Centennial Cellar – the jewel in the crown at Seppeltsfield, privately hosted by a Seppeltsfield wine educator.  Walk along-side the longest lineage of single vintage wines in the world dating back to 1878, culminating in a taste of Para Vintage Tawny direct from barrel of your birth year – a bucket list experience!

Drive back to Adelaide Airport.
