I've found the NH Collection a good brand to choose so far, and this one's no different. Quiet, attractive rooms for lounging and reading, perfect bed, fine bath and amenities. You're just a short climb up to Atocha from the main train station, there's a nearby square with bars serving tapas of very high quality, and the major museums (Prado, Reina Sofia, etc.) are a short walk away. Neighboring streets, too, are inviting. I made the mistake of booking a Spain Pass from the national railway, Renfe, which requires a reservation 24 hours before each time you travel, allegedly doable on line. Don't believe it. The reason I bring this up here is because I want to give special commendation to the hotel's concierge, Orson Pacho Salcedo for volunteering to take the task on for me and then spending 2 hours nailing down a reservation. Really beyond the call of duty, and done with a smile. That's the kind of place this is. Only complaint was that I had the room pictured here, and the place you put your suitcase is under those rafters, on which I managed to conk my head repeatedly. But that's my fault, not the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel to my friends. Thank you so much.
