The River Walk is San Antonio’s little slice of tourist heaven, comprised of a landscaped walking and biking path that weaves through downtown for more than 24 kilometres. The area is lined on both sides with quaint cafes, unique shops and riverside restaurants. The Arneson River Theatre is a particular point of interest with its impressive holiday lights display and summer festivities.
If you’re seeking a break from the urban bustle, take a walk through the San Antonio Botanical Gardens which display an exquisite exhibition of endemic flora. The gardens include the Lucile Halsell Conservatory and the Sullivan Carriage House.
For a taste of Spanish-Colonial Revival architecture, head to the McNay Art Museum, the first modern art museum ever constructed in the state of Texas. The complex houses 24 rooms of attractions including a Japanese-inspired garden and fish pond.
Getting there
The San Antonio International Airport is your gateway into the city, located 13 kilometres from the city centre. Well-connected roadways allow for easy transport by car, with plenty of rental options available. If you aren't planning on venturing too far, there are also public buses that service the major downtown area.
