Where to stay in Berlin

About Berlin

This small town on the northern edge of the White Mountains is a charming collection of beautiful churches, quaint Victorian houses and old-fashioned red-brick buildings. Steeped in history and culture, it’s a lovely gateway to explore some of New Hampshire’s most beautiful landscapes.

Things to do

Spend an afternoon on Berlin’s charming Main Street, where you’ll find a number of boutique shops and cafes. Just a few minutes’ walk away is the Moffett House Museum, where you can see a treasure trove of old Berlin photographs, manuscripts and mementoes. Visit the Northern Forest Heritage Park for a tour of the old mills, blacksmith demonstrations and lumberjack competitions.

One of the most popular activities in the region is moose-spotting, with an abundance of these fascinating creatures nearby. Other animals worth looking out for in the surrounding woods are black bears, otters and porcupines.

Visiting in autumn? With forests right on Berlin’s doorstep, the varied species of trees make for a vibrant display of colour. Go for a walk along the Androscoggin river and admire the beech, ash and sugar maples or get into the harvest spirit with a visit to a pick-your-own farm to try some of the delicious local produce.

Getting around

Berlin is 185 kilometers north of Concord, a two-hour drive through the captivating scenery of White Mountain National Forest. There are daily coaches from Boston International Airport, which also has multiple hire car companies. The city is well served by a bus network that will take you to most of the major attractions.
