About Carnac

Carnac is home to some of the most impressive megalithic sites in the world. Featuring more than 3,000 upright stones, the Carnac Alignments attract history buffs from across the globe. The area boasts one of the largest concentrations of megalithic sites in the world and occupies an enormous 40-hectare footprint.

Walking or cycling between the Kerlescan and Menac groups is one of the best ways to experience the incredible Carnac Alignments. In the town centre, the Museum of Prehistory showcases artefacts from the Neolithic period, including tools, jewellery, pottery and other treasures.

From cosy bistros to fine-dining restaurants, Carnac is filled with places to eat and drink. Be sure to try Breton specialties such as Cancale oysters and king scallops. For dessert, indulge in wafer-thin crepes topped with salted butter caramel sauce.

Grande Plage, a beautiful sandy beach set on the Bay of Biscay, is a great place to relax and soak up the sunshine. You’ll love basking on the sugar-white sand and cooling off in the turquoise water. Brightly coloured beach huts line the sand and give Grand Plage a postcard-perfect feel. The lively beach district is peppered with crepe stalls, ice cream parlours and souvenir shops.

Getting around Carnac
