About Constanza

Constanza is a high-altitude town surrounded by rugged mountains, pine-covered valleys and rolling farmland. At more than 1,200 meters above sea level, it’s one of the highest towns in the Caribbean. Explore wildlife-rich of national parks, swim at the foot of cascading waterfalls and enjoy the cool mountain temperatures.

Things to do in Constanza

Jump in a 4WD and take a bumpy ride to Aguas Blancas, one of the tallest and most beautiful waterfalls in the Dominican Republic. It tumbles 135 metres down a fern-covered cliff and into an emerald-green pool. Horseback rides are a fantastic way to explore the beautiful valleys and pine forests of the Central Highlands.

Ascend into the cloud forests of Valle Nuevo National Park. The park is perched on a plateau and is a sanctuary for local birdlife, including rare species like the golden swallow. Some of the highest parts of the park are more than 2,000 metres above sea level. Reserva Científica Ebano Verde is another rewarding place to hike, where a jungle-covered trail leads to a crystalline natural pool at the foot of a waterfall.

Constanza is known as the breadbasket of the Dominican Republic. Dine at local restaurants and enjoy dishes made with farm-fresh vegetables. Cauliflower, broccoli, beetroots, carrots and potatoes all thrive in the fertile farmland surrounding Constanza. You’ll also see punnets of ruby-red strawberries sold across the town.

Like most Latin American towns, Constanza is anchored by a tree-filled park. Stalls pop up in the park on weekends and serve Dominican Republic favourites like cheese-filled cassava dumplings and “sancocho” meat stew.

Getting around Constanza

Constanza is compact and easy to get around on foot. The town is in the Central Highlands, a 2.5-hour drive from Santiago De Los Caballeros and three hours from Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo/Las Américas International Airport is a three-hour drive away.
