Ho Chi Minh City’s largest urban area, District 12 lies to the north of the city centre and the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. While it’s a largely residential area, it also lies on the doorstep of some of the city’s most popular recreational attractions.
Things to do
District 12 is a great base for golfers wanting to take advantage of the fairways and facilities of the Tan Son Nhat Golf Course. This challenging 36-hole course was designed by leading golf architects Nelson & Haworth and boasts one of Asia’s largest clubhouses.
For a slice of Japan in the beating heart of Vietnam, spend an afternoon at Rin Rin Park. The beautifully manicured gardens include tranquil water features and ponds with colourful koi, as well as characteristic Japanese bridges. There’s also an on-site rental shop with traditional Japanese garments to wear while you explore the park.
Travelling with kids? Then don’t miss a visit to the extensive Dam Sen Cultural Park. In addition to its theme park rides and electronic games zone, it also features a theatre where you can see traditional folk tales and an ancient Roman-themed square.
A monorail traverses the park and accesses its numerous gardens, including a tropical garden filled with birds and a rock garden with cascading waterfalls. The highlight attraction is Dam Sen’s musical water display, with laser lights and images projected onto a 28-metre-high screen of water.
District 12 is around 20 minutes’ drive north of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport and connected to the centre of Ho Chi Minh City by frequent buses. Moto taxis or regular taxis are the most convenient means of getting around the district and accessing its surrounding sights.
