About Findlay

Serving as the seat of Hancock County, Findlay is a vibrant city in north-west Ohio. It was originally established as a fort by Colonel James Findlay to facilitate the transportation of troops during the War of 1812. Findlay flourished in the late 19th century following the discovery of oil and natural gas in the area.

Things to do in Findlay

Take a step back in time at the Hancock Historical Museum, which explores the people, events and industries that have shaped Hancock County. It occupies several historic buildings that include a two-storey Victorian residence and a log cabin, as well as the 19th-century Little Red Schoolhouse. Learn about the 1880s oil boom and the events that took place in Findlay during the Civil War, then admire the patterned glass crafted in the city.

Don’t miss the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum, which exhibits original illustrations from children’s picture books. Its collection includes works by Eric Carle, Patricia Polacco and Ted Rand, as well as illustrations by the Alsatian artist and writer, Tomi Ungerer. With more than 18,000 pieces of artwork on display, the Mazza Museum boasts the world’s largest collection of picture book art.

Hugging the bank of the Blanchard River is Rawson Park, which encompasses sporting facilities, a children’s playground and picnic tables. On the other side of Findlay is Riverside Park with its swimming pool, walking trails and waterfalls. Golfers can enjoy a round on the well-groomed fairways and greens of the Findlay Country Club.

Getting around Findlay

Findlay is around 45 minutes’ drive from Toledo and an hour from Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport, which has flights to destinations across the United States. Long-distance buses connect to the city while renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around the area.
