About Laoag

The gorgeous seaside town of Laoag is one of the premier tourist destinations in the Philippines, offering much more than just beautiful beaches and sunny weather. Laoag’s unique cultural heritage is coupled with modern attractions, including a range of restaurants, bars and beaches, making it a popular destination for all types of travellers.

Things to do

Laoag is a place with a rich heritage for the inquisitive visitor. The best place to experience the history of the town is at the La Tabacalera Ilocano Lifestyle Center, which is home to local restaurants and two museums with displays on traditional Ilocos and Cordilleras life, including ancestral homes and priceless treasures.

Push yourself to your limits with some daring activities such as 4x4 off-roading, or you can simply relax on the beach and soak up the excellent weather. Laoag is home to numerous sand dunes along its coastline, making it one of the best places for sandboarding. Grab a board and cruise down the dunes, but don’t forget to spend a moment at the top soaking up those South China Sea vistas.

Getting around

Laoag benefits from its own airport, with flights available from Manila and Guangzhou, or you can catch a coach to the town from numerous locations including Manila, Vigan and Pagudpud. Once you’ve arrived in Laoag, it may be best to hire a car if you really want to explore the region and make the most of your trip. However, if you want a taste of local culture then you may want to take a ride on a kalesa, a traditional horse-drawn carriage that has been around for centuries in the Philippines.
