Where to stay in Lom

About Lom

Lom makes a glowing first impression, surrounded by rugged mountains and filled with picturesque wooden houses. A crystalline river cuts through the village centre and adds to the postcard-perfect atmosphere. Relax in the village or use Lom as a base for exploring surrounding attractions such as Jotunheimen National Park and Geirangerfjord.

Things to do

Stroll around Lom to be enchanted by the cobbled streets and centuries-old log cabins. Many have been reimagined as cosy cafes and taverns where you can enjoy Norwegian dishes like “kjøttkaker” pan-fried meatballs.

Lom Stavkyrkje is set in a grassy cemetery and is one of the prettiest churches in Norway. The Norman-style church dates back to the 1110s and features a beautiful wooden façade and soaring steeple. Guided tours offer information on the highlights, including a series of magnificent paintings from the 1700s.

Lom is a great base for day trips to Geiranger, a fjord town 70 kilometres away. The drive is an experience in itself, with the spectacular Sognefjellet Road winding through Jotunheimen National Park and taking you past sparkling glaciers, snow-capped peaks and cobalt-blue lakes.

The excellent Norsk Fjellmuseum charts the rich history of mountaineering in Lom and Jotunheimen National Park. In addition to exhibits on famous climbers and ascents, the museum covers topics like natural history and cultural traditions. Don’t miss the enormous woolly mammoth in the main exhibition hall. Just behind Norsk Fjellmuseum is a fantastic open-air museum dotted with historic farm buildings.
