Things to do in Maggie Valley

Admire hundreds of vintage motorcycles at the Wheels Through Time Museum. See gleaming Harley-Davidsons, rare Excelsiors and a retro Flying Merkel. In addition to motorcycles, the museum showcases classic American cars like Lincolns and Packards.

Enjoy a scenic drive along the Haywood County Quilt Trail. The trail winds through the North Carolina countryside and past barns decorated with colourful, hand-painted quilt patterns. Pair your self-drive tour with visits to scenic overlooks like Browning Knob and Licklog Ridge.

Gear up for outdoor adventures in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Maggie Valley is a gateway to the park and an excellent base to hike, cycle and spot wildlife in North Carolina. Hike through sun-dappled forests and follow the Deep Creek Trail past a series of cascading waterfalls.

Hit the slopes in the family-friendly Cataloochee Ski Area. The resort has been welcoming skiers since the 1960s and offers groomed trails for every age and skill level. Practice tricks in the terrain park and speed down the snow-covered tube hill. Warm up with burgers, yam fries and hot chocolate back at the cosy ski lodge.

Maggie Valley has been producing strong, crystal-clear moonshine for centuries. The town was a former stomping ground for notorious outlaw Marvin “Popcorn” Sutton, nicknamed the “King of Moonshine”. Sip moonshine at local taverns and fill up on classic North Carolina dishes like pulled pork slathered in BBQ sauce, fried green tomatoes and creamy pimento cheese dip.
