About Naran

Naran is a picturesque town nestled in the mountains of the Kaghan Valley. It’s perched at an altitude of 2,409 metres and showcases the rugged natural beauty of Pakistan. Day trips from Naran take you to turquoise mountain lakes, lush alpine meadows and picturesque hill stations. The River Kunhar flows past the village and adds to the serene atmosphere.

Things to do in Naran

Surrounded by rugged peaks, Lake Saif-ul-Maluk is named after an Egyptian prince and is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Pakistan. It’s more than 3,000 metres above sea level and reflects the mountains on its calm water. Hitch a ride to the lake in a Jeep or lace up your boots and walk the two-hour trail.

Lulusar Lake is an easy Jeep ride from the village and mesmerises visitors with its mirror-like surface. It’s on the way to Babusar Pass and surrounded by colourful alpine wildflowers. The lake feeds the mighty Kunhar River, which you’ll see flowing past the village. Adrenalin seekers can set off on white-water rafting trips along the River Kunhar.

Shogran hill station commands sweeping views over the Kaghan Valley and surrounding peaks. Wander through the emerald green alpine meadows and warm up with a cup of peppermint tea at the cosy cafe.

The village of Naran is dotted with traditional restaurants and guesthouses where you can enjoy Pakistani cuisine. Tables are loaded with fragrant chicken curries, lamb stews and chargrilled flatbreads as well as traditional sweets flavoured with saffron, cardamom and pistachios.

Getting around Naran

The village centre is compact and easy to get around on foot. Jeeps are the fastest and most reliable way to reach nearby lakes, meadows and hill stations while you can also ride horses or hike scenic trails. Islamabad is a six-hour drive away.
