About North Shore

Once an independent city, the North Shore now forms part of Auckland’s urban sprawl and is linked to the city centre via the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Attractive waterfront suburbs and blissful beaches are just part of the district’s allure, as is its abundance of family-friendly attractions.

Things to do in North Shore

Spend a day exploring the relaxed village of Devonport, which is rapidly earning a reputation as one of Auckland’s hippest suburbs. Traditional Kiwi pubs, independent boutiques and art galleries line its main strip, while its beaches are the place to cool off during the summer months. For stunning views across Auckland Harbour, climb to the top of North Head’s volcanic cone.

Travelling with kids? They can bounce away at JUMP Trampoline Park in Mairangi where you’ll also find a giant foam pit, dodgeball court and slam dunk lanes. You can test your upper body strength on the Ninja Warrior Course and attempt the Wall Walk or just kick back with a coffee in the Jump.Fuel Cafe.

Another North Shore attraction that families shouldn’t miss is the Auckland Adventure Park, which features kid-friendly play areas and adrenaline-pumping rides. You can fly through the trees on the zip-line or whizz down the 650-metre luge track, then get fired into the sky on the vertical bungee. If 3D’s not enough, step into the park’s 7D cinema for an immersive movie experience like no other.

Getting around North Shore

The North Shore is around 35 minutes’ drive from Auckland Airport and 15 minutes from the city centre, with the Northern Busway the most convenient way of accessing the CBD. Several North Shore suburbs also have ferry links to the city, including Devonport, Stanley Bay, Bayswater and Birkenhead. Buses connect suburbs throughout the district, with taxis and ride-share services are also available.
