Where to stay in Norwalk

About Norwalk

Sitting on the northern shore of Long Island sound, Norwalk is a pleasantly affluent city in Connecticut. Although just one hour away from busy New York City, this seaside town has a laid-back ambience that complements its picturesque harbour, alfresco restaurants and tranquil waterfront parks.

Things to do

Norwalk is a coastal city through and through, and the highlight of any stay usually revolves around the adjacent Long Island Sound. Calf Pasture and Shady Beach are the city’s two main beaches, with stunning views across the water and plenty of water-based activities to enjoy. One of the highlights of Shady Beach is the kid-friendly volleyball area that’s great for an afternoon with the family.

Another nautical attraction in Norwalk is the city’s excellent Maritime Aquarium, which features various marine life, from sharks to seals and starfish. The aquarium also offers a variety of cruises across Long Island Sound, where you can take a romantic sunset cruise around the area. There’s even an IMAX theatre at the aquarium in case you fancy enjoying the latest blockbuster after an afternoon of hands-on learning.

Looking for something more indulgent? Norwalk is truly a foodie’s paradise, with fresh crab claws, juicy lobster tails and a bowl of New England clam chowder. One of the best spots to sample the local fare is at Norwalk institution SoNo Seaport Seafood restaurant.

Getting around

Most of Norwalk’s points of interests can be reached on foot. For travelling further afield, the city use the city’s buses, trains and taxis. For a more novel way of seeing the surrounding area, head to the waterfront and take a ferry to neighbouring towns across the Long Island Sound.
