Serving as the seat of Umatilla County, Pendleton lies on the banks of the Umatilla River in Oregon’s north-east. It is named after George H. Pendleton, an Ohio politician and lawyer, and rose to prominence in the late 19th century as a textile manufacturing hub. The city is also famed for its annual rodeo, the Pendleton Round-Up.

Near the western end of the walk is the famous Pendleton Roundup Grandstand, which has been hosting rodeos since 1910. Adjacent is a Hall of Fame filled with rodeo memorabilia.
