About Remich

Overlooking the Moselle River as it marks the border with Germany, Remich is the smallest commune in Luxembourg. It was settled by the Romans as the town of “Remacum” before being destroyed by the Normans in the 9th century. Remnants of Remich’s medieval walls and gates are still visible today.

Things to do in Remich

Wander the medieval streets of Remich to admire its historic buildings, many of which are occupied by cafes, restaurants and small grocery stores. Don’t miss the 12th-century Parish Church, which is topped by a former watchtower. Step inside to admire the frescoes depicting the church’s patron saints, Stephanus and Laurentius, together with the richly decorated altar.

Remich makes an excellent base for visiting the Roman Villa Borg, an ancient villa that was discovered at the end of the 19th century. It has since been reconstructed as it would have appeared during Roman times, with a large palatial residence, a bathhouse and a Roman kitchen. Stroll through the herb and medicinal gardens to learn about remedial plants before dining on ancient Roman recipes at the tavern.

Elevated views across the town can be enjoyed from the Point de Vue Remich, which lies alongside the Benoît & Claude Viticulteurs. High-quality riesling is produced at this small winery, together with rose and pinot gris. You can combine your visit with a stop at the Gallo-Roman burial temple in Bech-Kleinmacher, which offers panoramas across the surrounding vineyards.
