A region of great interest to both locals and tourists incorporates the Tomb of Yu the Great and East Lake. As majestic cliffs sweep down into the green water, cliffs are etched with grottoes, sculptures and bridges. It’s the perfect place to photograph wildlife and scenery. Arrive early to capture the morning mist while gliding along in a traditional boat. Shaoxing has exceptional dining establishments serving local dishes and Sichuan cuisine. The easiest way to get around Shaoxing is via bus, as multiple bus routes operate in the downtown area. The centre is also easy to walk around with temples, monuments and canal areas within walking distance of each other. Taxis are easy to spot in Shaoxing, each has a symbol painted on the side, making them distinctive for tourists.

Shaoxing was named in 1131, during the Southern Song dynasty. Modern day Shaoxing is located in the capital of the Spring and the Autumn Period Kingdom of Yue, and its ancient history can still be uncovered today. Although the city is making great contemporary strides, the past is still evident in Shaoxing’s charming streets, canal side houses and its art, crafts and cuisine.
