Nestled on the northern slope of Mount Slęża, Sobotka is a historic town in Poland’s Wrocław County. In the heart of Sobotka is the Slężanskie Museum, which occupies a hospital building constructed by the Augustinians in 1568. Its exhibits detail the spiritual beliefs of the area and the nature of the Slęża Massif and showcases architectural elements from Sobotka and beyond. In the Gallery of the Slężanskie Museum are works by Edward Lutczyn, Wieslaw Ochman and Stasys Eidrigevičius.

Rising south-west of the city is Mount Slęża, which is one of 28 peaks that comprise the Crown of Polish Mountains. Rising 718 metres, it is blanketed in forest and protected within Slęża Landscape Park. Follow the hiking trail that leads to the summit, which is topped by an observation tower and the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

North of Slęża Landscape Park is Zamek Gorka, a Neo-Renaissance castle built in the 19th century. The oldest part of the complex incorporates a 12th-century chapel founded by the Augustinians. Don’t miss the soaring spire of the Parish Church of St. James, which exhibits a fusion of Gothic and Baroque architectural styles.
