About Tavarua

The heart-shaped Tavarua Island is surrounded by aquamarine waters and sits at the southern edge of the Malolo Barrier Reef. This tropical paradise features sugar-white sand and swaying palm trees, along with seven world-class surf breaks a short boat ride away.

Things to do

Tavarua Island is one of the South Pacific's top surf destinations. There's something for every skill level, from monster swells at the world-famous Cloudbreak to gentle waves at Kiddieland, a high-tide playground for beginners. Organise a boat trip or lesson, where you can try your hand at windsurfing or stand-up paddleboarding.

With crystal-clear water and a rich underwater ecosystem, Fiji is one of the world's top diving destinations. Tavarua Island is a great base for exploring the incredible dive sites that dot the Malolo Barrier Reef. You can’t go wrong diving at "The Supermarket”, home to tropical fish and sharks.

Tavarua Island serves up year-round fishing, with the chance to reel in mahi-mahi, yellowfin, walu, and wahoo. Most boats make a beeline for the waters around Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Alternatively, take a day trip around the island for a day of fishing, swimming and snorkelling.

If you'd rather stay on dry land, you can enjoy a game of beach volleyball or soak up the sunshine along the sun-kissed coastline. Stroll around the secluded island, sign up for a traditional Kava ceremony and dine on local Fijian delicacies at sunset.

Getting around

The only way to reach Tavarua Island is by boat, with most starting their journey at Nadi International Airport. From there, Tavarua Island Resort offers airport pickups and private boat transfers to the island. With no cars on Tavarua Island, the best way to get around is on foot.
