About Albufera Natural Park

Home to natural wonders and an array of wild bird species, Albufera Natural Park boasts the largest lake in Eastern Spain and sits just a 20-minute drive south of Valencia. With flora and fauna abound, Albufera Natural Park offers a revitalising break from the city.

Things to do

The main pull of Albufera Natural Park is the wide range of bird species that nest here, which includes rare species of wading birds and a wide variety of common resident birds. Pack your binoculars and prepare to take refuge in order to spot one of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

Looking for a leisurely boat ride? Then head to Albufera lake for a journey across its calm waters, bird watching as you go. This excursion is perfect for adults and children alike, where you'll pass traditional thatched farmers cottages and local fishermen reeling in the day’s catch.

Perfect for hikers, strap up your walking boots and set off down one of the many trails around the park. Wind your way through the coastal dunes and lagoons, meander amongst tall oak trees and follow the shores of the lakes.

After a day of hiking, birding and boat riding, it’s probably time for something to eat. The Albufera has been home to rice farmers and fishermen for decades, and you’ll soon notice these ingredients are the staples of local cuisine. Head to the nearby towns of El Palmar or El Saler for some tasty fish paella and other traditional delicacies.

Getting around

After flying into Valencia airport, take a bus into the city centre where you can either hire a car and drive 40 minutes south to Albufera Natural Park or join one of the guided bus tours.
