About La Salvetat-sur-Agout

Overlooking the confluence of the Vebre and Agout rivers, La Salvetat-sur-Agout is a charming town in the Occitanie region of southern France. It is located along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela and is dotted with medieval monuments. Surrounding the town are the scenic landscapes of Parque Natural Regional Haut-Languedoc.

Things to do in La Salvetat-sur-Agout

Stroll through the heart of La Salvetat-sur-Agout to admire the Church of Saint-Etienne de Cavall, which was founded in the 11th century. Listed as a Historic Monument, it houses a highly revered statue of a black Virgin. Also not to miss is Castle Arfifat, a former summer residence of the Bishops of Saint-Pons-de-Thornières.

One of La Salvetat-sur-Agout’s most famous monuments is the Bridge of Saint-Etienne, which spans the Vebre River just before it flows into the Agout. Completed in the 16th century, it is highly photogenic thanks to its vaulted arches. Scenic walking trails hug the riverbanks nearby.

Just west of La Salvetat-sur-Agout is Parc Acrobatique De La Raviège, a high ropes course designed for budding acrobats. There are four different courses to choose from with varying levels of difficulty, all overlooking the waters of Lac de la Raviège.
