Where to stay in Lugu

About Lugu

Surrounded by lush tea plantations and emerald-green bamboo forests, Lugu Township immerses you in the natural beauty of Taiwan. Ancient cypress forests, tumbling waterfalls and picturesque lakes will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Things to do

Lugu Township is known as the home of Dongding Oolong Tea, which is a rich blend with a deep flavour and sweet fruity aromas. The high-altitude tea is grown in the mountains around Lugu Township and is served at many local teahouses. Visit the Lugu Tea Industry Museum to find out more about the art of tea growing in Taiwan.

Hiking trails wind through the Xitou Forest Recreation Area and take you past towering cypress and cedar trees, some more than 3,000 years old. More than 7,000 bird species have been spotted in the park, making it a top destination for birdwatchers. A beautiful bamboo bridge spans across Daxue Pond.

Kids will squeal with delight at the Xitou Monster Village. Entrance to the monster-themed park is via a traditional Japanese torii gate. Inside are charming wooden buildings decorated with hanging lanterns, while the park is also dotted with sculptures of colourful Japanese monsters.

At the end of a short hiking trail, two-tiered Desing Waterfall cascades down a rocky cliff face and into an emerald-coloured pool. Take a refreshing dip in the pool and enjoy a picnic on the rocks surrounded by verdant gingko trees and ferns.

Getting around

Rental cars are a quick and easy way to explore Lugu Township at your own pace. The region is a one-hour drive from Taichung City and 1.5 hours from Taichung International Airport. Local buses run between Taichung and Lugu Township in around two hours.
