About Mohammedia

Providing a welcome relief from the bustle of nearby Casablanca, Mohammedia is a laid-back port city with one of the region’s best beaches. It was named after King Mohammed V to celebrate the ground-breaking of the Samir refinery, which is the centre of Morocco’s petroleum industry.

Things to do in Mohammedia

Mohammedia clusters around a small medina, with a grand mosque its most notable architectural landmark. Wander through the traditional souk that sprawls behind the old kasbah and people-watch while sipping mint tea or feasting on tagine at one of the local cafes.

Golfers can head to Royal Golf Nafa, which is known affectionately as “The Scotsman”, and boasts magnificent sea views from its 18 holes. You can also enjoy the challenging course and technicalities of the newly designed Royal Golf de Mohammedia.

Want to learn how to surf? Then head to Sablettes, a picture-perfect crescent of sand with beginner-friendly waves. It’s backed by a string of cafes and restaurants overlooking the water and jet skis are also available for rent.

Alternatively, make the short journey north to the more advanced waves at Pont Blondin or enjoy a sunset camel ride on La Plage de Mannesmann. Plage Miramar is the perfect spot to cool off in the middle of Mohammedia and a great spot to watch the comings and goings of cargo boats and sailing yachts.

Getting around Mohammedia

Gare de Mohammedia connects the city to Casablanca in the south-west and Rabat to the north-east. Public buses run along the major thoroughfares, while share taxis and private taxis are readily available.
