Where to stay in Nangzhuang

About Nangzhuang

Nanzhuang Township takes you beyond the city and showcases the natural beauty of rural Taiwan. The township is made up of nine villages, each with its own unique charm. Learn about indigenous Taiwanese culture, visit an ancient Taoist temple and discover scenic areas with lush jungles, waterfalls and lakes.

Things to do

Nanzhuang Township is home to the Saisiyat people, one of the smallest indigenous groups in Taiwan. Set on the banks of Xiangtian Lake, the Museum of Saisiyat Folklore offers information on the fascinating history, heritage and culture of this ancient group.

Lined with historic buildings and decorated with cherry-red lanterns, Nanzhuang Old Street recalls the charm of old Taiwan. The street is famous for producing osmanthus wine, a traditional alcoholic beverage made from local flowers. You’ll also be tempted by shops selling pork buns, rice dumplings and stewed tofu.

Magnificent Quanhua Temple is dedicated to the Jade Emperor and has been welcoming pilgrims since 1897. The main hall is carved into the side of a sandstone mountain and is decorated with intricately carved dragons and phoenixes.

Nanzhuang Township is a great base for exploring the stunning Shenxian Valley. Scenic trails wind through the valley and take you past rocky cliffs and cascading waterfalls. Don’t miss the observation platform, which offers fantastic views over the jungle. Xiangtian Lake is another natural gem, with emerald-green water and a picturesque town where you can enjoy tea and sweets.

Getting around

Nanzhuang Township is located in northern Taiwan, a one-hour drive from Hsinchu and two hours from Taipei. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Nanzhuang Township and the surrounding towns and villages at your own pace. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is a two-hour drive north.
