About Støren

Nestled in the Gauldalen valley south of Trondheim, Støren is a peaceful town at the junction of the Gaula and Sokna rivers. It’s named after the old Støren farm that once existed here and is now a popular base for salmon fishing enthusiasts.

In the heart of Støren is the Gaula Nature Centre, which tells the story of life along the River Guala. You can get up close to a variety of native wildlife species, including wild salmon whose life cycle takes place in the river and its tributaries. The centre also has a small exhibit where everyday artefacts and vintage fishing tackles are displayed.

Støren’s most iconic landmark is its bright red octagonal church, which was built in 1817 on a design by Svend Halvorsen Aspaas and Lars Forseth. Coincide your visit with a service to meet the local congregation, then gain insight into the village’s history while wandering the surrounding cemetery.

Getting there

Støren is just over an hour’s drive from Trondheim Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Regular trains connect from Oslo to the Støren railway station while the village is compact enough to explore on foot.
