The tiny village of Tadoussac offers some of the best whale watching in Canada, with the chance to spot multiple species from May to November. Zodiac tours take you out onto Saguenay Fjord and get you up close with humpbacks, fins and even blue whales. From the shoreline, it’s possible to spot smaller species like minkes and belugas.
The excellent Centre d’Interprétation des Mammifères Marins features exhibits on whales and other marine life. Getting up close with the 13-metre-long whale skeleton is a highlight. Visit the Poste de Traite Chauvin to explore a replica of a 17th-century fur trading post.
Sea kayaking along the coast is a great way to satisfy your appetite for adventure and explore Parc Marin du Saguenay-St-Laurent. Scenic trails skirt the shoreline and showcase the beautiful coastal landscapes. The exhilarating Via Ferrata des Géants route takes you high up the cliffs and unlocks fantastic views over the river and the fjord.
Getting there
Tadoussac is located on the North Shore of the St Lawrence River in Quebec. The village is a four-hour drive from Quebec City, six hours from Montreal and eight hours from Ottawa. Rental cars are the best way to explore Tadoussac and the Côte-Nord region at your own pace.
