About Grimaud

Centred around an atmospheric medieval village, Grimaud is a coastal commune on the French Riviera. It is named after Gibelin de Grimaldi, who helped William the Good in his fight against the Saracens and was given the land on which the village sits as his reward.

Things to do in Grimaud

Stroll the medieval streets of Grimaud to admire its centuries-old buildings, including the simple yet elegant Eglise Saint-Michel. Originally built in 1069, much of its interior dates back to the 19th century. Coincide your visit with one of the regular musical events to hear the church’s organ in action. On the western edge of town is the charming Chapelle des Penitents with its gilded altar.

Perched on a hilltop overlooking the town is the Chateau de Grimaud, which has existed since at least the 11th century. It was reinforced in the 15th century and dismantled during the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century. From its crumbling towers and fortifications, there are spectacular views across Grimaud and the surrounding countryside.

A short drive east of the town centre will take you to the Plage de Port Grimaud, which overlooks the Gulf of Saint Tropez. It’s patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months and is a popular setting for water sports such as sailing. Golfers can enjoy a round at the Beauvallon Golf Club while soaking up the magnificent water views.
