A 300-year-old traditional inn which is in a convenient location for walks around the resort. Although located in the center of hot-spring town, it's quiet for a cozy little inn. It's ideal for a couple, a family, and a small group of people to rest or stroll. Our clean bath, made of Japanese cypress, pulled from a hot spring source in the hot spring area. Our home-made dishes using local vegetables and fish have received a good reputation.

About Gunma Prefecture

Located north-west of Tokyo, Gunma is a mountainous prefecture on Honshu Island that’s renowned for its onsen. It was historically a centre for horse breeding and training before silk factories were established here in the 19th century. In the 20th century, the city of Ōta became the headquarters of the Nakajima Aircraft Company, which went on to become a world leader in aeronautical design.

Things to do in Gunma Prefecture

Explore the city of Maebashi. Serving as the capital of Gunma Prefecture, Maebashi is a bustling city on the banks of the Tone River. Visit the Shinto shrine of Kōzuke-no-kuni Sōja-jinja and enjoy the fragrant roses of Shikishima Park before strolling through the Japanese-style gardens of Gunma Flower Park. Thrill-seeking rides and a kid-friendly carousel can be found in Luna Park while thousands of cherry trees ignite the volcanic slopes of Mount Akagi.

Soak in the hot springs of Kusatsu. Located at 1,200 metres in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture is the charming town of Kusatsu, which is home to more than 100 hot springs. See steaming hot water gushing down the wooden chute of the Yubatake mineral pool or watch a demonstration of “yumomi”, a centuries-old traditional method of cooling water. Hiking trails lead into the surrounding mountains while skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed at the Kusatsu Kokusai Ski Resort.

Get outdoors in Minakami. In the shadow of Mount Tanigawa, Minakami serves as a base for exploring the wild rivers, mountains and valleys of northern Gunma Prefecture. In addition to whitewater rafting and canyoning, you can participate in bungee jumping, hiking and mountain biking. Nearby is the arts and crafts village of Takumi no Sato where artisan activities are demonstrated.
