Escape the crowds and enjoy the sunshine on Kamala Beach. Clean and quiet, the beach is fringed by a two-kilometre stretch of sugar-white sand. Lush coconut palms frame Kamala Beach and create a laid-back, tropical atmosphere. Instead of supersized resorts, you’ll see small hotels, villas and apartments strung along the shoreline.
Swimming is best at the northern end of the beach, where the water is calm and shallow. Rent snorkelling gear and swim out to the rocks to see colourful corals and fish. From May to October, a reef break forms at the northern end of the beach and attracts local surfers. Longtail boats depart from the beach and take you to nearby beaches like Surin and Laem Singh.
Kamala was once a small fishing village, and you’ll still see colourful wooden fishing boats along the beach. Unsurprisingly, seafood is a local specialty. Dig into steamed fish, baked crab and spicy prawn soup. You’ll also see the usual Thai classics, including curries, noodles and spicy papaya salad.
Getting there
Kamala Beach is a 15-minute drive from Patong Beach and one hour from Phuket City. Taxis and minivans are a fast and affordable way to travel to Kamala Beach. The resort itself is compact and easy to get around on foot.
