Central Sfax is anchored by a bustling Medina encircled by ancient city walls. Built in the 1300s, the Bab Diwan gateway marks the eastern entrance to the Medina. It’s fronted by a sunny plaza where you can refuel with tasty street food and freshly-brewed mint tea. Nearby, you’ll find the main souk, where you can stock up on rose water and handmade jewelry.
Love immersing yourself in local culture? Head to the Sfax Archaeological Museum to find some of Tunisia’s most treasured artifacts found in nearby Roman sites. The Musée Dar Jallouli is another highlight, showcasing everything from traditional costumes to Arab calligraphy.

Getting around Sfax
Taxis are a convenient way to get around and can take you to most major attractions. You can also jump aboard a louage, which is the Tunisian version of a public mini bus. The best way to explore the winding streets of the Medina is on foot.
