Where to stay in Baddeck

About Baddeck

Escape to Baddeck, a sleepy resort town surrounded by the lush green pastures of rural Nova Scotia. It's set on the northern shores of Bras d'Or Lake and offers history, culture and beautiful waterscapes. Spend your time paddling on the lake, devouring freshly-caught lobster and dancing to traditional Celtic music.

Things to do

Covering more than 1,000-square kilometres, Bras d'Or Lake is considered an inland saltwater sea. Wildlife-watching tours are a great way to explore the lake and spot puffins, Cape Breton Island's most famous residents. You could also spot majestic bald eagles soaring overhead.

Pay your respects to one of the world's most famous inventors at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. It's housed in Beinn Bhreagh, the former summer home of the Scottish-born scientist. Inside you'll find exhibits celebrating his various innovations, including the telephone.

Gear up for a night of Celtic dancing and Cape Breton fiddle music at a Baddeck Gathering Ceilidh held in the parish hall, just opposite the visitor information centre. The traditional "kitchen parties" offer a taste of the island's colourful Celtic roots.

Housed in the former legion hall building, Baddeck Lobster Suppers serves up some of the best seafood in Nova Scotia. It's known for its tantalising all-you-can-eat mussels buffet. Wash it down with a pint of organic craft beer at nearby Big Spruce Brewing.

Getting around

The Baddeck town centre is easy to get around on foot, while a rental car is the best way to explore Cape Breton Island and the iconic Cabot Trail driving route. Baddeck is 80 kilometres south-west of Sydney and a five-hour drive from Halifax.
