New Glasgow is anchored by a lively town centre filled with historic architecture. Postcard-perfect Provost Street is lined with Heritage-listed buildings, while Temperance Street's Carmichael Stewart House Heritage Museum offers a glimpse at life in the late-1800s. It was owned by a wealthy shipbuilder and is filled with antiques, costumes and other period memorabilia.
Located 10 minutes north of town, Crombie House showcases Canadian art, including landscapes by the legendary Cornelius Krieghoff. Kids will love the Museum of Industry, an upbeat attraction featuring hands-on exhibits. Highlights include an interactive water-power station, working assembly line and full-size locomotive.
On sunny days, locals flock to Melmerby Beach Provincial Park, a scenic stretch of sand on the Northumberland Strait. It boasts some of the warmest waters in Atlantic Canada and is a great place to swim, sunbathe or picnic.
New Glasgow is immensely proud of its Scottish roots and naturally, this extends to golf. Work on your swing at the Glen Lovat Golf Club, a scenic course set in the lush foothills of Fraser Mountain. It offers 18 challenging holes and an atmospheric clubhouse overlooking the fairway.
Getting around New Glasgow
The New Glasgow town centre is easy to get around on foot or by using local taxis. The nearby town of Stellarton is a five-kilometre drive south. New Glasgow is a two-hour drive from Halifax International Airport and 15 minutes from Pictou, where ferries depart for Prince Edward Island.
