About Münsingen

A rolling landscape interspersed with ancient castles and ruins, Munsingen is a German town located in the district of Reutlingen. With a lively musical ambience, its historic buildings make for an appealing tourist stop if you’re passing through or looking to stay awhile.

Things to do

Munsingen is home to many ancient ruins, highlighted by the 14th-century Burg Derneck castle. Take a short hike up to explore the castle grounds and be rewarded with excellent views of the city below.

Dating back to 1095, the Gruorn is an impressive historical area located on the outskirts of Munsingen. Hop on a bicycle or wander around on foot, where you can explore many of the old buildings still standing in the village. The former schoolhouse now houses a free exhibition upstairs where you can learn about the history of the village.

When you want to escape the city and head to mountains, the prominent Swabian Alps are located just outside of Munsingen. A perfect destination for nature enthusiasts, you can enjoy hiking moderate hills and ascend small peaks or traverse across grassy fields sprinkled with juniper bushes.

Burgruine Hohenstein is another large area comprised of several preserved castle ruins. Here you can wander freely amongst edifices of stone, serving as historic reminders of older times and gawk at the undulating landscapes in the distance.
