About Andover

Andover was once an important staging post for coaches travelling between London and Southampton. Walking around the town centre, you’ll see centuries-old inns and taverns built to house travellers.

The Andover Heritage Trail winds through the town centre and takes you past landmark buildings, including the Georgian-style Andover Guildhall. Stop for a pint at the heritage-listed Angel Inn, one of the oldest pubs in England. The Andover Poetry Trail skirts the banks of the River Anton and features stones engraved with poetry.

Andover Museum occupies a handsome Georgian townhouse and features exhibits spanning from the Bronze Age to the present day. Inside you can view archaeological treasures, including Saxon weapons and medieval figurines.

Andover is nestled in the Test Valley and is a great base to walk, hike and cycle in the Hampshire countryside. The Test Way follows the river and takes you past chalk downs, crystalline streams and wildlife-rich tidal marshes. Visit the Hawk Conservancy Trust to get up close with more than 100 birds of prey. You’ll be amazed by the enormous wingspans and razor-sharp talons.

Discover ancient history at Danebury Hill Fort, one of the most important Iron Age strongholds in Europe. Grass-covered ramparts encircle the fort, which is now dotted with towering beech trees. You can learn more about the fort at the Museum of the Iron Age in the Andover town centre.
