Where to stay in Dartmouth

About Dartmouth

Nestled on the River Dart, the picturesque town of Dartmouth is steeped in history, from graceful heritage homes and gardens to boulevards and castles. It’s also a thriving beach community with water sports, seafront cafes and the scenic Devon’s Coast Path.

Things to do

Ride the Greenway Ferry for 30 minutes to the former estate of Dame Agatha Christie, where you can get a fascinating glimpse into the life of Devon’s most cherished author. The Castle Ferry also takes you to Dartmouth Castle to explore a centuries-old fortress housing the Castle Tea Rooms.

Rent a boat and explore the creeks, quays, wildlife and small villages along the River Dart. You can also swim and fish Blackpool Sands, a Blue Flag beach with kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals.

Looking for peace and quiet? Take one of the many coastal walks, which range from short strolls to strenuous hikes. Wander through woodlands, sand dunes, wildlife preserves and rocky windswept coves.

Have a picnic in Royal Avenue Gardens with classic fish and chips from the award-winning Rockfish eatery. Another favourite dining spot is The Wheelhouse, which offers coveted seafood. Top off any meal with famous South Devon fudge from one of the small shops along the beach.

Getting around

Buses and taxis are available in Dartmouth, as well as bicycle hires offering electric bikes, tandems, buggies, tagalongs and child seats. You can rent a car in Dartmouth or at Exeter Airport, about 45 kilometres away.
