Tucheng District is an inner-city district close to New Taipei City in the north of Taiwan. With blossom tree-filled parks, religious temples and public gardens, a trip to the area provides a rejuvenating escape for those seeking rich culture.
Things to do in Tucheng District
In the centre of the district sits Lungshan Temple, a quiet place of worship called a “meeting place of the gods”, known for the 100 gods that are honoured here. Worshipers of all ages are welcome to take part in rituals or simply admire the building’s intricate design.
Lin Family Mansion and Garden is a great attraction and a well preserved public area. The members of the Lin family were famous politicians and business people within the district, and their legacy has been preserved through elegant landscaping of their gardens. Take a scenic walk around the mansion, pond and square pavilion.
Located south-west of Tucheng is the Taiwan Nougat Museum, a tasty delight featuring Chinese antiques and exhibits on Taiwan’s rich history producing nougat. Take a tour around the museum, before heading to the gift shop to pick up some tasty nougat to take home.
If you’re looking for an adventure, take an hour walk uphill to find Nantianmu Square, home to the Tucheng Tung Blossom Park. Alternatively, a bus runs from the town centre up to the park. In April and May, the area comes alive with pink and white blossoms, and you can enjoy romantic walks by the stream.
Getting there
Both Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei Songshan Airport service the district and sit less than an hour’s drive away. Car hire, taxis and buses are all available, and once in the district, the Metro is the most popular mode of transport to navigate the Tucheng area.
