Where an umbrella lined beachfront meets exotic ambience, Legian is a town in South Bali coveted for its sprawling golden coastline and low-key vibes. Less frenzied than the bustling streets in nearby Kuta, Legian is an area where you’ll find beachfront restaurants, open-air markets and surfers trying to catch the perfect wave.

Legian Beach is the area’s premier attraction, bustling with boogie boarders, surfers and beach football players by day. If you’re looking to get your feet wet, take a surf lesson from one of the local shops. Evenings are filled with fire dancers, jamming musicians and terrific sunsets so pick a spot and sit back and relax with a cocktail in hand.

Carve out some time for shopping in Legian, where you can pick out the trendiest new surf wear or select a few souvenirs and trinkets to take home. Jalan Padma is the place to go for beadworks, while Jalan Arjuna is a treasure trove for sarongs and fabrics. Jalan Legian offers plenty of high-end fashion apparel, including stores such as Rip Curl and Surfer Girl.

If you’re looking to make a splash head to Waterbom, the best waterpark in the country, where you’ll find an abundance of thrilling rides and things to do. Take a dive down the Climax body slide, float down the Lazy River or test your endurance on the Constrictor, the longest water slide in the world.

Getting around

Most of the area can be explored on foot, so enjoy a leisurely stroll between destinations. The Perama shuttle bus is the primary form of motorised transport, routeing to Ubud and surrounding cities. Motorcycle taxis are the quickest option for short journeys in town and can also be rented for additional travel freedom.
