About Bateau Bay

A charming seaside village, Bateau Bay borders the vast Wyrrabalong National Park and offers long stretches of coastline for swimming, snorkelling, fishing and water sports. Serving as an access point to The Entrance and Tuggerah Lake, Bateau offers numerous chances to explore the great outdoors.

Things to do

Bateau Bay is an angler’s dream destination with prime fishing found in bays, lakes and inlets. You can drop a line straight from Shelly Beach or from the coastal rocks at low tide, while surfing, hang gliding and whale watching are also available.

Spend an afternoon at the Bateau Bay Beach Picnic Area for swimming and picnicking. Travelling with the family? The kids will love snorkelling and exploring swirling rock pools. Head over to Crackneck Point Lookout for spectacular views of Tuggerah Lake and The Entrance, a scenic location ringed with beaches, deep lagoons and sparkling lakes.

Explore the 140-hectare Wyrrabalong National Park with its towering cliffs and coastal rainforest. Follow scenic paths along the popular Red Gum and Lillypilly Loop Trails.

Before heading back to town, work up an appetite along the Coast Walking Track, a thin strip of forest land running for about three kilometres from Bateau Bay to Forresters Beach. Go shopping at more than 80 specialty stores in Bateau Bay Square, then relax with Modern Australian dining at Thyme After Thyme Restaurant.

Getting around

Bateau Bay lies less than 100 kilometres from Sydney, where you can take a train, bus or rental car out to the coast. After arrival, the most convenient ways to get around include buses, taxis and bicycles.
