Where to stay in Daintree

About Daintree

Surrounded by lush rainforests and cascading waterfalls, Daintree is a tiny village in northern Queensland. It's a gateway to the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, offering the perfect place to relax on a beach, sail at Cape Tribulation or sign up for a Great Barrier Reef ocean safari.

Things to do

Start your trip at the Daintree Discovery Centre, where you can learn about the ancient rainforest ecosystem. The award-winning aerial walkway unlocks access to the rainforest canopy and you can explore a network of boardwalks that wind through the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

The Daintree River winds through the heart of the region and serves as an important habitat for local wildlife, such as estuarine crocodiles. You'll find a handful of operators in Daintree offering crocodile-spotting cruises.

For a day in the sun, head north to Myall Beach, which is fringed by a shallow reef with calm water. Kids will love exploring the colourful rockpools at low tide or strolling along the Dubuji Boardwalk that winds through a mangrove swamp.

Daintree is home to plenty of cafes, tour operators and general stores, while nearby Cow Bay is also anchored by a bustling village. You can try delicious ice cream flavours at the Floravilla Ice Cream Factory or enjoy a pint at the Cow Bay Hotel.

Getting around

Although the easiest way to explore the Daintree region is by car, buses do run from Daintree Village to Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. Coach tours are also available from various nearby cities, including Cairns.
