Home to the CBD, Toowoomba City is the administrative hub of Queensland’s Darling Downs region. Perched 700-metres above sea level, it overlooks the gorgeous Lockyer Valley. It may be Southern Queensland’s biggest city, but it still boasts a charming country town feel.
There’s plenty to do in Toowoomba City, from catching a show at the heritage listed art deco Empire Theatre to exploring the public parks and gardens that pepper the CBD. Toowoomba City is also dotted with restaurants, which are a fantastic place to sample Queensland’s world famous produce.
Just 90 minutes from Brisbane, Toowoomba is an easy day trip from the Queensland capital. Though given the fantastic array of attractions and experiences on offer, most visitors choose to stay for a few nights. Access to the city centre is via the Toowoomba railway station, as well as the city's bus interchange.
While Toowoomba City is an attraction in itself, most visitors use it as a jumping point to wider Darling Downs attractions. The region is a fascinating place to explore, with places like the Cobb & Co horse drawn carriage museum and Royal Bull’s Head Inn homestead offering visitors a fascinating glimpse at Toowoomba’s colonial past. Further afield, Ravensbourne National Park and Crows Nest Falls are magnificent places to get a nature fix.
