About Hunei District

Hunei District combines rural charm with easy access to both Tainan City and Kaohsiung City. A stone’s throw from the district, you’ll find a palm-fringed sandy beach and a wildlife-rich wetland area. Head into the cities to visit big-ticket sights and attractions.

Things to do in Hunei District

Once a former salt pond, Qieding Wetlands is now one of the top urban birding destinations in Taiwan. It’s an important migration ground for black-faced spoonbills, as well as other species like the purple heron and glossy ibis. Some birds come as far as Siberia to spend the winter in the Qieding Wetlands.

A sandy beach and leafy palms give Jiading Coast Park a tropical feel. Stroll along the beach and stay for sunset to watch the sun sink into the South China Sea. On weekends, you can buy drinks and snacks from street food vendors.

Yuemeichi Tzu Chi Palace welcomes you with strings of brightly coloured lanterns. The ancient temple dates back to the 1600s and is dedicated to the Chinese and Taoist Deity of Medicine. It’s been rebuilt several times over the centuries but retains its original grandeur.
