Things to do in Jerilderie

A prominent town in the Ned Kelly saga, Jerilderie is where the Ned Kelly gang raided the Bank of New South Wales. You can hear all about the bank heist and other Ned Kelly stories at the Ned Kelly Blacksmith Shop, which features blacksmithing, fishing and Australian artefacts. Afterwards, visit the Old Printery Building where Ned Kelly attempted to publish his manifesto. It’s also home to The Bolt exhibition, which showcases the lives of iconic bushrangers and convicts.

Are you interested in local flavours straight from the bush? Embark on the Bush Tucker Trail that takes you along Billabong Creek starting at Luke Park. There are numerous edible plants along the trail, which also incorporates Horgan’s Walk around Lake Jerilderie. If you prefer something more traditional, stop in at Jerilderie Bakery for fresh scones, pastries and sweet treats.

Bring the kids along for a fun ride on the Jerilderie Steam Rail, a miniature train that runs along the banks of Billabong Creek, over a footbridge and under a tunnel. There’s also a mini rail station, cold refreshments, a jumping castle and playgrounds on running days. Don’t miss the Memorial Park and Garden, where you can pay respect to those who’ve served Australia in various wars over the years.

Discover detailed graphite illustrations of Jerilderie and international buildings at Jumptree Studios, the workplace of artist Helene Mortlock. You can also visit in September for the annual Jerilderie Gold Cup Races, which include children’s entertainment and Fashions on the Field.
