Alexandria was founded in 1835, which means there’s plenty of history to soak up. The former Alexandria Town Hall is now listed on the State Heritage Register, in addition to the terraced houses that line Retreat Street. If the Sydney Swans are playing, you can bet that the historic Alexandria Hotel will be packed to the rafters.

Of course, no trip to Sydney is complete without ticking off sights like the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay and Bondi Beach. Thanks to its central location and excellent public transport connections, Alexandria offers easy access to top Sydney sights.

Getting around

Alexandria is within walking distance of three train stations, including Erskineville, Redfern and Green Square. All offer great connections in and around Sydney. You can reach the airport in 25 minutes, Circular Quay in 30 minutes and Bondi Beach in under one hour. Local buses also operate in the area, with fast connections to both the CBD and surrounding suburbs.
